We had the honor to host
Dr. Inês Sequeira from NIMSB, who gave a talk on
“Decoding Skin and Oral Mucosa Regeneration and Immunity Through Spatial and Single-Cell Omics”
Dr. Inês Sequeira Short Bio
Dr Inês Sequeira is currently an Associate Professor at Queen Mary University of London and Deputy Research Director at the Institute of Dentistry, and upcoming Group Leader & Vice-Director for Research at the NIMSB (NOVA Institute for Biomedical Systems Biology). She has dedicated her research career to studying skin and oral epithelia homeostasis, wound healing, and cancer. Her team focuses on understanding the scarless potential of the oral mucosa when compared to skin, and on studying the heterogeneity and clonal evolution of oral cancer, using in vivo and 3D in vitro models combined with state-of-the-art computational tools and single-cell and spatial omics to dissect the molecular and cellular heterogeneity of the oral tissues in health and disease. A passionate advocate for team science, she co-founded the London Stem Cell Network and the QMUL Barts Centre for Squamous Cancer, leads the Human Cell Atlas Oral and Craniofacial Bionetwork, and established QMUL’s Spatial Biology Hub, to spark collaborations and accelerate discovery.
