A look into the NEAR future
Over the next four years, the Oeiras Life Science Campus will emerge at Quinta do Marquês, Oeiras, aiming to advance Science and Innovation in a One-Health Perspective.
This venture will involve the construction of 30,000 square meters of new laboratories, located in new research centers and start-up incubator/s to bring together more than 2,000 Researchers and (Bio)entrepreneurs in one place. Besides, the Campus will harbor cutting-edge technology and facilities, allowing for disruptive, interdisciplinary, and sustainable approaches to research and innovation, whereby effective solutions to complex health challenges shall be nourished.
The National Institute of Agriculture and Veterinary (INIAV), the Institute of Chemical and Biological Technology António Xavier (ITQB NOVA), and the Institute of Experimental and Technological Biology (iBET) are already settled on the future Campus site. NOVA University Lisbon will double its presence through the implementation of NIMSB, followed by the Centre for Biomedical Research (CBR), which belongs to the Medical School of the Lisbon Catholic University.
To create the necessary conditions for living on Campus, several supporting infrastructures will also be created, taking advantage of the historical sites, countryside setting, and nearby beaches of Oeiras and Carcavelos:
NEW NIMSB BUILDING CONCEPT
The future NIMSB headquarters will be designed to host front-end research and be open to the community. The NIMSB building will play both, a leading role as a platform integrating research endeavors from various R&D units within and outside the Campus, while also fostering Innovation through the establishment of the Venture A5 concept with the other entities embedded in the Oeiras Life Science Campus.
