The NOVA Institute for Medical Systems Biology (NIMSB) had the honor of participating in the VII National Congress on Small Fruit Production, held in Oeiras on September 25–26, 2025. This year’s congress focused on Climate Change and Small Fruit Production and brought together researchers, producers, and industry experts to discuss sustainable strategies for the future of small fruit production.

The event was organized by the Associação Portuguesa de Horticultura (APH), Instituto Nacional de Investigação Agrária e Veterinária, IP (INIAV, IP), and COTHN.

NIMSB proudly contributed with several presentations:

  • Cláudia Nunes dos Santos, invited speaker in the session Quality and Health Benefits, presented on polyphenol-based nutritional strategies and the gut-brain axis.
  • Catarina Pinto and Carlos Pita delivered scientific communications on berry-enriched diets and microbiome modulation in health, including applications in a Parkinson’s disease model.
  • Daniela Marques presented a poster on a nutritional trial with berry fruits, exploring brain barrier properties in a model of inflammation.

The results shared at the congress form part of the LIMBo project, funded by the European Research Council (ERC), which investigates the connections between diet, microbiome, and brain health.
