Judit Morello

Judit Morello, PharmD, PhD, is a specialist in mass spectrometry (MS)-based metabolomics. Her journey in metabolomics began during her PhD in Clinical Pharmacology at Hospital Carlos III in Madrid, Spain, where she investigated inter-individual variability in drug response from a targeted pharmacokinetic and pharmacogenetic perspective. Motivated to address biological complexity more comprehensively, she undertook postdoctoral training in untargeted metabolomics at the Center of Proteomics and Metabolomics, Leiden University Medical Center, the Netherlands. This experience shaped her research focus on applying metabolomics to investigate the mechanisms underlying disease and drug-induced toxicity, and to identify metabolic biomarkers with translational and therapeutic potential. Between 2022 and 2026, she coordinated the Metabolomics Unit at NOVA Medical School, establishing LC-MS-based workflows and supporting researchers across the entire metabolomics pipeline, from experimental design and sample preparation to data analysis and interpretation.

As Chair of the Metabolomics Unit at the NOVA Institute for Medical Systems Biology (NOVA IMSB), Judit is responsible for establishing and developing the institute’s metabolomics platform. Her work focuses on implementing advanced MS-based methodologies and data analysis workflows, supporting multidisciplinary research projects, fostering collaborations with other omics technologies, and providing training in metabolomics to researchers and students.
