Ana Patrícia Silva started her academic life with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology at FCUL, and then spent some time in the Azores studying and working on a fellowship in Deep-Sea Ecosystems. She pivoted in field from Marine Sciences to Bioinformatics after a fellowship gave her the opportunity of playing with scripts and data in a new way. To better support this change in field, she did a Master’s degree in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics in Universidade Nova de Lisboa, wherein for her thesis she created a machine learning tool to identify a protein’s possible function using just the amino acid sequence.
She is now part of NOVA IMSB and is also a student in the PhD programme of Biosciences at ITQB, working on her PhD project, with the objective of creating a computational methodology for studying solid tumors progress and drug interactions, considering the metabolic heterogeneity within.
