European Researchers’ Night 2025 – An Incredible Evening!

NEI 4

Yesterday at Marina de Oeiras, researchers from NIMSB had the unique opportunity to share their science with curious minds of all ages – and what an unforgettable evening it was! The event was full of inspiration, discovery, and endless curiosity.

Our researchers showcased three fascinating projects. Raquel Lourenço, Rita Pereira, and Rute Salvador introduced visitors to a tiny fish with superpowers – capable of regenerating parts of its eyes and even overcoming blindness. Inês Figueira, Rita Garcia, and Daniela Parente guided attendees through the “brain-on-chip,” a mini-brain model that helps us understand and develop treatments for neurological diseases. Diogo Carregosa, Diogo Louro, and Alexandre Mendes presented a promising substance with the potential to revolutionize the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

Our researchers demonstrated their projects with unstoppable enthusiasm, energy, and dedication. Their passion truly brought the science to life for everyone.

The event was organized by ITQB NOVA and attracted a large number of visitors to the NIMSB stand. Throughout the evening, participants engaged actively with the projects and shared their impressions on the »Impression Tree«, a board where post-its collected reflections and feedback, turning into a colorful display of curiosity and enthusiasm.

European Researchers’ Night is a Europe-wide public event, funded by the European Commission, that brings researchers and the public together through fun, inspiring, and interactive activities to celebrate science, promote research, and encourage young people to pursue scientific careers. The initiative takes place annually, culminating in a single night (last Friday in September) with events across many cities and countries, aiming to demystify scientists and demonstrate how research impacts daily life.

This, 26th of September 2025, was an evening of inspiration, questions, and wonder – and we are already looking forward to the next European Researchers’ Night!
