NIMSB at Pint of Science: How Polyphenols (and a Pint) Can Boost Your Brain

Claudia Pint of science

What happens when you mix beer and science? No, we’re not talking about brewing techniques — we’re talking about the unique and engaging experience of the Pint of Science Portugal festival, where science leaves the lab and meets the public in relaxed, informal settings.

On the evening of May 20, NIMSB was proud to take part in this celebration of science communication at Fábrica Braço de Prata in Lisbon. Representing NIMSB, our Vice-Director for Research, Cláudia Nunes dos Santos, delivered a captivating talk titled:

“A ciência dos polifenóis na dieta: segredo para um cérebro saudável?”
(A science of the polyphenols in the diet: secret for a healthy brain?)

Her presentation explored how polyphenols — natural compounds found in many foods and drinks, including fruits, vegetables, tea, wine, and yes, even beer — may play a significant role in promoting brain health and preventing neurodegenerative diseases.

The event attracted a diverse and curious audience, proving once again that science and public engagement go hand in hand — especially when paired with a good pint.

NIMSB is proud to contribute to initiatives like Pint of Science, which bring cutting-edge research closer to the community and make science more accessible, one glass at a time.
